Environmental Education for All!
Yunlin County’s successful promotion of environmental education (EE) has already resulted in five facilities and one institution completing an EE program. However, in order to recruit even more certified environmental educators to promote the importance of EE, the county’s Environmental Protection Bureau has assisted the Environmental Education Institute at National Yunlin University of Science and Technology to set up a “120-Hour Environmental Protection Training Course for Environmental Educators” beginning on December 10, 2016. Interested members of the public are encouraged to enroll on this course, with certificates of completion being awarded to those who complete the course with full attendance.
There are six ways in which environmental educators can become certified. These include: recognition of their academic/occupational background or special knowledge, having their name put forward, passing a test, or undergoing a training course. To encourage more people to obtain the professional knowledge required to promote EE, the 120-hour training course offered by the Environmental Education Institute at National Yunlin University of Science and Technology includes 30 hours of training on the core subjects related to EE, 60 hours of training on the professional field of EE, and 30 hours of practical experience on EE within professional domains. Members of the public with an interest in EE are eagerly invited to enroll. Enrollment information and regulations are available at ues.yuntech.edu.tw/sub/education/environmental.html, or by contacting Ms. Chen on 05-5342601, Ext. 4479.
Director-General of the Environmental Protection Bureau Lin Chang-chao stressed the importance of everyone participating in EE, stating that only by increasing public awareness, motivating people to acquire the knowledge and skills required, changing our attitudes, and then putting all of this into play can we make our environment even better. With more environmental educators who can spread the word on EE being required, anyone with an interest is welcome to become part of the movement. By working together, we can create a world where people can live in peace and enjoy their work.
