After 34 years, Yunlin County will once again host the National Middle School Athletic Games, and to ensure that the athletes can perform in a good environment, the Yunlin County Government will not only provide clean competition venues and comfortable bathroom spaces, but also invite environmental protection volunteers to promote garbage-sorting and provide environmental education. Indoor air quality continuous automatic monitoring instruments have also been set up to fully prepare for the 2021 National Middle School Athletic Games in Yunlin, and hopefully “serve the athletes and referees,” “have the county residents involved,” and “make these guests feel honored.” 　Environmental Protection Bureau of Yunlin County Director Qiao-wei Chang stated that the recent consecutive poor air quality warnings from the Environmental Protection Agency has caused public concern, and the indoor air quality is still primarily affected by the atmosphere. This is particularly evident for confined spaces and if a large number of people gather indoors, the carbon dioxide concentration will increase as well and a concentration over 800ppm will make people feel fatigued. Therefore, the Yunlin County Environmental Protection Bureau has set up 13 indoor air quality continuous automatic monitors at 11 rooms of the Yunlin County Stadium, the NYUST Gym, and the TWU Gym to ensure that the athletes put on great performances. These instruments will monitor indoor carbon dioxide and PM2.5 concentrations at all times during the competitions, and provide cloud monitoring network platforms for athletes and guests to check the indoor air quality of the venues at all times. When the concentration exceeds the warning value, the staff at the competition venues will immediately carry out contingencies such adjusting the A/C, opening or closing windows, increasing cleaning frequency to improve the air quality within the venues so that the athletes can perform at the highest levels. 　Yunlin County Mayor Li-shan Chang County said that the 2021 National Middle School Athletic Games in Yunlin has integrated the county’s environmental protection resources to provide the athletes with the best, healthiest, and environmentally friendly competition environments. The County Government has begun planning in advance during 2020 to form volunteer environmental protection teams, have 266 individuals conduct environmental cleanliness inspections of the competition venues and provide environmental education, and assist the public to sort out garbage, kitchen waste and recycling. The County also planned to have 450 garbage-sorting cans, 1,480 portable toilets, more than 1,000 cleaning personnel and street sweeper trucks, and 13 indoor air quality continuous automatic monitors to ensure the cleanliness and safety of the competition venues.
