Love Sharing - Find a good home for “once-loved” items

On the morning of September 20, the Environmental Protection Bureau of Yunlin County and the Taiwan Chief Executive Officer Club for Social Benefits hosted a “Yunlin Memory Cool! Love Sharing, Love Treasures with the Sheltered Workshop” in Huwei. Not only were tasty handmade dishes prepared by the children of the sheltered workshop, but also the renowned craftsman of Yunlin, Peggy Lin was invited along to demonstrate the traditional aesthetic art of flower wrapping. Participants both big and small from social welfare organizations and the shelter were seen selling second-hand goods for good causes. A large number of the people turned up with their old toys and bags of “once-loved items” in the spirit of supporting this meaningful occasion. The event combined “craftsmanship” and “public welfare” and attracted patrons of all ages.

We often find unwanted things in our everyday lives which we consider wasteful if thrown away but taking up too much space if kept. These objects are usually left lying around our home because we simply do not know what to do with them. Inspired by this, the Bureau has invited a number of public welfare organizations to take part in this worthy event today. The public can donate items that are no longer wanted or needed, and these can either be sold for charity or given to those in need, enabling these objects to be loved again, achieving the goal of promoting “green” recycling while doing good deeds by helping others.

Director of the Environmental Protection Bureau, Zheng, Yu-Lin said that the current refuse problem is a state priority, and that only by cutting down from the source can we reduce garbage. Holding such an event and helping public welfare organizations,  makes it possible for “once-loved items” to be cherished again. This year, the Bureau also set up a second-hand exchange platform which allows those who are interested to register online and become a member. This exchange platform aims to share your unwanted items with others, letting them become someone else’s treasure, and reaching the ultimate goal of protecting the earth with our actions.
