Yunlin County to Promote Low Carbon, Happy, and Skillful Cooking with the 2022 Green Cuisine Master Competition

 In response to the Environmental Protection Administration, Executive Yuan’s promotion of “National Green Life Movement,” the Environmental Protection Bureau, Yunlin County held the 2022 Yunlin County Green Cuisine Master Competition on October 22nd at the Da-cheng Vocational High School in Huwei Township. The event invited the public to create “Vegetarian Low Carbon Earth-friendly Bento” using local, seasonal, and natural ingredients from Yunlin. In addition to cooking green cuisine, local farmers and green restaurants were invited to set up booths to promote eating seasonal and local produce, reducing carbon emissions from transportation, and advocating food value concepts such as whole-food utilization and reusing leftover food to establish a delicious relationship with low carbon and sustainable eating habits, thereby promoting the goal of “National Green Life Movement.”

 

 The Green Cuisine Master Competition had two categories: “Student Category” and “Social Category.” Five professional judges were invited to form the judging panel and evaluate the contestants' skills. The participants showcased their low-carbon creativity and culinary skills and presented dishes that were both unique and in line with the principles of green cooking. After careful deliberation and discussion among the judges, the following individuals were awarded in their respective categories: In the “Student Category,” O-yun Xu and O-jun Zhang from National Yunlin University of Science and Technology won first place, O-xuan Luo, O-fan Shen and O-han Zhang from National Douliou Vocational High School of Home Economics and Commerce won second place, and O-hua Xu, O-zhu Zhang and O-ren Zhang from National Yunlin University of Science and Technology won third place. In the “Social Category,” O-ling Liao, O-jun He and O-zhe Wu from Douliu City Farmers’ Association won first place, O-mei Huang, O-xian Chen and O-hui Xu from Xiacuozai Community, Linnei Township won second place, and O-xuan Zhang and O-hong Zhung from Xiuzhi Ranch won third place. The “Creative Cooking Awards” went to O-he Lin, O-zhe Yen and O-jie Zheng from Da-Cheng Vocational High School in the “Student Category”, and O-xuan Chen and O-fang Zhang from the Mingde Community, Douliu City in the “Social Category”. The “Local Specialty Award” went to O-ting Xie, O-ren Shen, O-yi Lin from Da-Cheng Vocational High School in the  “Student Category” and O-ping Liao and O-ru Liu from Leping Ranch in the “Social Category.” The “Most Popular Award” was determined by audience votes, and was awarded to O-zhu Tseng, O-lian Zhang and O-e Liu from the Fengtian Community, Dapi Township, and O-he Lin, O-zhe Yen and O-jie Zheng from Da-Cheng Vocational High School. The five professional judges expressed their admiration for the ingenuity displayed in each dish and recognized all contestants as the best allies in promoting low carbon eating.

 

 Deputy Director-general Fu-yi Huang of the Environmental Protection Bureau stated that with the arrival of the 2022 Yunlin National Health Movement Year, he urged fellow residents to maintain their health not only by cultivating good exercise habits but also by developing healthy eating habits in their daily lives. He expected that through the Green Cuisine Master Competition, residents could be encouraged to cook vegetarian dishes. Starting from everyday life, they can implement low-carbon eating habits. In this beautiful land of Yunlin, they can truly experience the warm hospitality of the earth by creating their own green cuisine and responding to the call for zero carbon emissions and sustainable love for the Earth.
