With consumer behavior and availability increasing, a large number of disposable shopping bags have been produced. To reduce the amount of garbage, we should carefully examine the issue of bags. For the first time, Yunlin County teamed up with PX Mart this year to establish “Pass Down Your Carrier Bag” stations at the 20 PX Marts in Yunlin County. By taking this approach, we hope to develop the idea of cherishing and reusing second-hand carrier bags, and promoting ideas of “bringing your own, reusing, consuming less” in people’s minds, to gradually change people’s lifestyles in Yunlin County.

　Zhang Qiao-Wei, Director of the Environmental Protection Bureau of Yunlin County, said that through the establishment of the second-hand shopping bag stations, people can develop concepts of recycling and reusing shopping bags, leading to people preferring to use second-hand shopping bags. If there are shopping bags (they must have handles) that are no longer being used at home, people can also take them to the station for recycling. The Environmental Protection Bureau will send dedicated staff to collect and disinfect these bags and replace them in all stations for reuse, maximizing the lifespan of the bags. By changing people’s consumption habits, we are able to plant the seeds of friendly consumption so that it can be further implemented in our daily lives.

　County Magistrate Chang Li-Shan said that garbage reduction and resource recycling and sorting have become universal values, but in Yunlin County, they are ever-present. This year, we are very pleased to be working with PX Mart to jointly promote reduction work, and we are grateful for PX Mart’s cooperation and support. With marine waste pollution becoming more serious these days, many pollutants, such as plastic particles, endanger human health through the food chain. To tackle this, we should all join forces to make changes in Yunlin and initiate “bringing your own, reusing, consuming less” environmental actions.
