On June 28, the EPA held the 8th National Environmental Education Awards ceremony in the International Hall on the 2nd floor of the Taipei Garden Hotel. Solarfarm Corporation, located in Mailiao, Yunlin, received the “Excellence” award in the private business category, showing the fruits of many years of promotion of environmental education by Yunlin County.
As a “green economy practitioner and sharer of happy experiences”, Solarfarm Corporation set “green energy, green agriculture, and green education” as its focuses, in order to create a green economy platform. Starting from “friendly land and eco-friendly agriculture”, the company has developed six levels of agriculture. The company has set up a dedicated environmental education organization to promote environmental education, which was certified as an environmental education site in 2021 by the EPA. Solarfarm Corporation actively promotes agricultural and environmental education, and has applied for carbon footprint reduction certification for many of its agricultural products. The company has teamed up with schools and agencies to develop environmental education courses and organize environmental education activities, hoping to develop into a uniquely sustainable agricultural environmental education park in Taiwan.
County Magistrate Chang Li-Shan congratulated Solar Corporation on representing Yunlin County and winning the 8th National Environmental Education Excellence Award in the private business category. Magistrate Chang said that the company has become a model for learning about the green economy and environmental education. As environmental education is a never-ending process, the County has brought together many agencies, communities, schools and sites over the years to promote environmental education through various local features. The efforts have paid off, as results have been delivered in ecology, water resources, energy conservation, and natural resource conservation. Thanks to the support of those who have lent a hand in promoting environmental education, the seeds of environmental sustainability are able to continue to grow deeper and stronger.
Zhang Qiao-Wei, Director of the Environmental Protection Bureau of Yunlin County, said that the National Environmental Education Awards, held every other year, are the highest honors recognizing the contributions of those engaged in environmental education. In the first stage of the competition, first place winners of each county and city are selected, which are then reviewed twice by the EPA, putting them in competition with Taiwan’s best organizations and people, so winning an award is no mean feat, and we congratulate Solarfarm Corporation. With the passing of the Food and Agricultural Education Act on May 4 this year, we hope Solarfarm Corporation will become a leader in the promotion of agricultural education, in the spirit of “promoting food and agricultural education for all people to strengthen the link between diet, environment and agriculture”. We hope to bring in more partners and teams to help Yunlin County become a model for environmental education.
