In support of World Water Day on March 22, the Environmental Protection Bureau, Yunlin County hosted “2026 World Water Day - Together in Douliu: Love Water, Clean Hard (2026世界水資源日—『斗』陣愛水、淨力而為)” on the morning of March 21 at the plaza of the Douliu Industrial Park Service Center (斗六產業園區服務中心), Ministry of Economic Affairs. Led by Deputy Magistrate Bi-jun Chen, the event brought together enterprises from Douliu Industrial Park (斗六產業園區), local water environment patrol teams, the Qingshui River Patrol Team of Zhushan Township, Nantou County, students and teachers from Shiliu Science and Technology Experimental School, and community volunteers to jointly clean the riverbank environment along the Douliu-003 Fengsan Bridge (楓三橋) section of Niupuzi River (牛埔子溪). The cleanup collected a total of 18.15 kilograms of garbage, 7.35 kilograms of recyclables, and 537 cigarette butts.

　A highlight of the event was the formal signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Environmental Protection Bureau, Yunlin County and the Environmental Education Facility of the Douliu Industrial Park Wastewater Treatment Plant (斗六產業園區污水處理廠環境教育場域). Through this partnership, the two sides will integrate resources to promote river conservation, water quality monitoring, water pollution prevention, and environmental education, enhancing environmental management efficiency within the industrial park, fulfilling corporate social responsibility, and creating a sustainable model that balances economic development with environmental protection.

　Deputy Magistrate Bi-jun Chen stated that to welcome the “2026 Beautiful Yunlin 5S Campaign Year (2026美麗雲林5S運動年),” the Yunlin County Government dedicate its efforts to building a livable and clean homeland by fully launching the dual “sweeping and cleaning” project. In addition to launching large-scale cleanup operations at river garbage hotspots across the county to protect water environments, the government will integrate surveillance systems to precisely target violations. This will be supplemented by a reward system for reporting waste-related violations to encourage public supervision, demonstrating a determination to comprehensively protect the environment, with technology and public participation advancing hand in hand.

　Experience zones such as the “Real-time Waste Sorting Challenge (垃圾分類即時挑戰賽),” “Water Resource Knowledge Quest (水資源知識闖關),” and “Water Resource Sustainability Check-in Wall (水資源永續打卡牆)” were also set up on site. Through interactive learning and pledges to take action, the public was encouraged to start with source reduction and cultivate correct concepts regarding water usage and environmental protection. Qiao-wei Zhang, Director of the Environmental Protection Bureau, stated that the Bureau will continue to foster cross-departmental cooperation and public engagement, while strengthening water quality monitoring and pollution source management. The goal is to make “one more action, one less pollution” a universal concept and to work together to create a clear and resilient water environment in Yunlin.
