Following days of torrential rain, Guangfu Township in Hualien County was left with severe damage, making post-disaster recovery efforts an urgent priority. On October 8, the Environmental Protection Bureau, Yunlin County dispatched 10 high-pressure flushing and vacuum drain cleaning vehicles along with a professional drain cleaning team to Guangfu Township, Hualien County, providing support for post-disaster drainage cleaning and environmental restoration. After arriving at the site, the team followed the coordination of the on-site command center and officially began drain cleaning operations on October 9, assisting with the cleanup of severely affected areas including Xueshi Street, Dunhou Street, and Linsen Road. Due to heavy layers of accumulated soil and blocked roads, the team used pressure washing combined with vacuum suction to quickly remove large amounts of mud, sand, and floating debris. Drain cleaning personnel mobilized equipment and manpower to carry out the cleanup, completing approximately 105 meters of drain cleaning work and removing around 19.5 metric tons of accumulated soil on the first day, effectively improving flooding and drainage blockage conditions.
Yunlin County Magistrate Li-shan Chang stated that as the impacts of extreme weather continue to intensify, local disaster preparedness and environmental recovery capabilities have become increasingly important. Yunlin County has continuously strengthened its flood prevention preparations and drain cleaning capacity, and its ability to immediately assist Hualien demonstrates the results of the county government’s long-term investment in environmental governance and professional training. The vehicles and personnel deployed for this support operation were fully provided with assistance from contracted drain cleaning service providers commissioned by the county government, demonstrating Yunlin County’s solidarity and ability to take action in times of disaster.
Director Qiao-wei Zhang of the Environmental Protection Bureau stated that, from its launch in 2024 through the end of September 2025, Yunlin County’s “Drain Cleaning Campaign (清溝大作戰)” had revitalized more than 1,200 kilometers of drainage channels, with 31,197.1 metric tons of mud, sand, and waste removed through a total of 5,965 vehicle deployments. These efforts not only effectively improved drainage capacity in flood-prone areas but also laid a solid foundation for the county’s rapid response and assistance capabilities. The Environmental Protection Bureau, Yunlin County will continue to uphold the spirit of “One Island, One Destiny, Working Together Toward Recovery”, maintaining readiness of personnel and equipment and serving as a reliable partner and support force within Taiwan’s disaster response system.
