Magistrate Li-shan Chang presided over the plaque unveiling ceremony of the Yunlin Goods Reuse Center on the 12th. She stated that the center serves as a community hub where residents can donate reusable items and obtain secondhand items they may need. Items that are no longer needed at home but are still fit for use can be brought to the center to be repaired and refurbished by skilled technicians before being made available for others to take. The center will also host periodic exchange events, allowing residents to swap unwanted items so that resources are fully utilized and the goals of resource circularity and zero waste can be achieved.
The Yunlin Goods Reuse Center is a key initiative under the Environmental Protection Bureau, Yunlin County’s 2030 Yunlin County Circular Waste Management (2030雲林縣垃圾全循環) policy. Established with the support of the Yunlin County Council, the center provides a platform for residents to pass along unwanted but still usable and undamaged household items to those who need them. Professional technicians are regularly stationed at the facility to repair, refurbish, and upcycle donated goods, ensuring they are still available to be used as intended. Following extensive preparation, the center officially opened this year with a collection focused primarily on baby and children’s items, including strollers, child safety seats, baby walkers, toys, clothing, shoes, socks, fabric bags, and picture books, as well as bicycles and a variety of household goods. The public is warmly invited to visit the center.
Deputy Director Fu-yi Huang of the Environmental Protection Bureau noted that most households gradually accumulate items that are no longer needed. This is especially true for baby products, strollers, and bicycles that children outgrow. Keeping these items takes up valuable space, while throwing them away as waste is a needless loss. To advance Yunlin County’s 2030 Circular Waste Management policy and support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Environmental Protection Bureau, Yunlin County established the Yunlin Goods Reuse Center. Deputy Directo Huang expressed his appreciation for the strong support of the Yunlin County Council, which made the center’s opening possible. Residents are encouraged to donate usable items so they can benefit individuals and families in need. When donations are available in sufficient quantity and suitable categories, refurbished items may also be donated to local social welfare organizations and charitable institutions, ensuring resources are fully utilized while fostering a culture of sharing and environmental sustainability.
The Yunlin Goods Reuse Center is located at No. 265, Fengxing Rd., Douliu City, Yunlin County, adjacent to the Haifenglun River. It is open Wednesday through Sunday, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., and is closed on Mondays, Tuesdays, and national holidays. From Wednesday through Saturday, professional tailors, bicycle mechanics, and appliance repair technicians take turns providing on-site services, offering simple repairs and refurbishment while assisting with item exchanges. Donated goods are evaluated by qualified technicians before being cataloged and made available for public registration and collection. The center welcomes donations from all sectors and plans to host monthly events, with the public encouraged to participate.

It prevents waste, reduces the generation of refuse, and forms an essential part of Yunlin County’s 2030 Yunlin County Circular Waste Management(2030雲林縣垃圾全循環) policy. While supporting the national and global goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, Yunlin County has set an even more ambitious target by pursuing its vision for 2030, advancing four strategic pillars: Smart Economy, Low-Carbon Sustainability, Safety and Health, and Shared Prosperity. The Yunlin Goods Reuse Center is one of the county’s flagship initiatives under the Low-Carbon Sustainability pillar. She encouraged residents throughout the county to participate so that unwanted household items can be put to their best use, reusable resources are not wasted, and valuable materials can continue to circulate rather than become waste.
