Trash Bag leaking Inspection Starts on January 1, 2016, in Yunlin County to Fully Reduce Waste and Facilitate Recycling
On January 1st, related staff of the Environmental Protection Bureau of Yunlin County Government worked with the cleaning squad of Dapi Township to inspect trash bag leaking along Zhongshan Road, Zhongzhen Road, and other main roads of the township. Along the way, they advocated the trash sorting and recycling policy, and checked if there were any trash bags leaking due to cracks or tearing; more than 100 leaking bags were found. On average, there were three recyclables in each bag, about 50 percent of the total trash inside. The cleaning squad had those recyclables taken out, and those whose trash bags contained many recyclables would be asked to take the trash bags home and discard them only after doing the sorting. In most cases, fruit peels, vegetable kitchen leftover, and recyclables such as paper containers took up the largest proportion of the content in the torn trash bags. Leaflets were also distributed to promote trash sorting concepts among the public.
According to Lin Chang-zao, Director General of the Environmental Protection Bureau of Yunlin County Government, the countywide trash bag leaking inspection was enforced starting from January 1, 2016. He reminded the public to pay more heed to trash sorting and recycling, which otherwise will entail a penalty of NT$ 1200-6000 in accordance with the Trash Clearance Act. He expects all the citizens to follow this policy to lessen the burden of trash on our environment.
