The 2020 Yunlin County Environmental knowledge competition - Brainstorming your knowledge with prizes up for grabs - Yunlin’s next environmentalists!

 In an attempt to raise the public’s awareness regarding environmental issues, and allowing them to gain knowledge on environmental protection and education, under the principles of fairness, impartiality and openness, the Environmental Protection Bureau of Yunlin County put together the “2020 Yunlin County Environmental Knowledge Competition” today (19th) at TransWorld University. The competition was divided into: elementary, junior high, senior high, and senior vocational schools, as well as social groups, with the top 5 members in each group selected to represent the county at the national finals. Approximately 300 students and members of the public took part.

 The Environmental Knowledge Competition, covering a vast range of topics, has been running since 2012. Contestants are required to include the “Environmental Education Lifelong Learning Network” designated videos, environmental issues, current affairs, and environmental education in their preparation for the 8 major elements. Aside from the previously stated topics, the competition this time also encompasses current affairs and local environmental issues in a bid to encourage the public to learn more about environmental issues. Attitudes and values towards the environment can be changed, allowing participants to promote environmental protection ideas in schools, family, and society while further applying environmental protection and environmental education in their everyday lives.

 The Environmental Knowledge Competition this year (2020) was not affected by the current pandemic. Although all contestants had to go through a series of safety measures, they were ecstatic to be taking part. The intense atmosphere of the elimination and sudden death rounds was wholly felt between the students, teachers, and parents, and the entire event was a festival of knowledge and fun. Results for each group were revealed after the competition and the top 5 in the elementary school group were: Liao, Ming-Kai of Zhongshan Elementary School, Yang, Bo-An of Gongcheng Elementary School, Zhang, Ming-Jun of Jhennan Elementary School, Lu, Xiu-Qi of Jhennan Elementary School, and Liao, Hong-Yu of Gongcheng Elementary School. The top 5 in the junior high school group were: Deng, Heng-Sheng of Douliou Junior High School, Chen, Yu-Xuan of Jian Guo Junior High School, Li, Min-Jin of Linnei Junior High School, Li, Pei-Jie of Dong Nan Junior High School, and Huang, Shi-Xian of Kouhu Junior High School. The top 5 in the senior high school group were: Zheng, Bin-An of Douliou Vocational High School Of Home Economics & Commerce, Zhang, Yu-Feng of Tou Liu Senior High School, Zhung, Yan-Zhu of Huwei Senior High School, Guo, Yu-Xin of Huwei Senior High School, and Lin, Guan-Wei of Tou Liu Senior High School. Finally, the top 5 in the social group were: Wu, Bing-He[EY1] , Zhong, Yi-Fang, Li, Hui-Zhou, Chen, Cui-Qian, and Wu, Wen-Xi. The top 5 members of each group will represent Yunlin County in the national finals organized by the Environmental Protection Administration in Kaohsiung City on November 14, 2020.

 According to the mayor of Yunlin, Chang, Li-Shan has been promoting environmental education through a variety of lifestyle and action approaches. In response to the current pandemic, the public can now gain awareness of environmental protection at home via the promotion of online platforms. Demonstrating that environmental education is not limited to any form or age group. We thank the students, teachers, and members of the public who have taken the time to participate in the competition today. By demonstrating your passion for environmental issues, it has allowed the people of our county the opportunity to learn more about environmental education and environmental protection issues. We would like to urge the public to jointly protect the planet, thereby making it possible for Yunlin to be a truly “green” county.
