The Environmental Protection Bureau of Yunlin County leads the way in low-carbon transportation vehicles with the introduction of its fleet of official electric vehicles

This year, the Environmental Protection Bureau of Yunlin County (the Bureau) has taken the lead and introduced electric vehicles ahead of any other bureau or division, while at the same time purchasing new electric motorbikes for various inspection work and official duties. Meanwhile, the Bureau has also set up a designated electric vehicle parking zone and charging station outside their offices for the friendly use of motorbikes in the hope of encouraging the public to use electric vehicles that produce little pollution, thus improving the air quality of Yunlin.

The Bureau suggested that, as a means to accelerate the improvement of the air quality of the county and provide the general public with a good living environment, all government agencies should set an example in environmental protection by using low-carbon transportation. Mayor Chang, Li-Shan, has demanded that not only should public and private venues reduce pollution, but official electric vehicles are also promoted in Douliu City - a city with the largest number of motorized vehicles in Yunlin. The Bureau was the first to respond to the mayor’s calls. In addition to applying the use of electric vehicles and motorbikes to work duties and inspections, priority will be given to the use of electric vehicles in outsourced projects. At least 10 electric vehicles are expected to perform work duties relating to environmental inspections in 2020, taking the lead in showing the public the importance of environmental issues.

Director of the Bureau Zheng, Yu-Lin said that Douliu city will be set as an example for the promotion of electric vehicles. The first phase of the plan is to establish a fleet of electric vehicles and designate 7 priority parking spaces for electric vehicles, as well as 1 charging station. Not only has each parking space been clearly marked to prevent other vehicles from using it inadvertently, a sign indicating “Designated Electric Vehicle Parking Spaces and Charging Zone” has also been put up. These facilities have been put in place and electric vehicle owners who visit the Bureau are most welcome to use them. Further fleets of electric vehicles will also be added by the County Police Bureau, Department of General Affairs, Department of Civil Affairs, and Department of Land Administration. It is expected that there will be at least 45 electric vehicles in government agencies in 2020. By utilizing green energy to reduce carbon emissions, the county of Yunlin hopes to make a substantial difference to air quality.
